Last updated: 16 May 2026

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using the Irritated geek website.

Introduction

This is the privacy policy of the Irritatedgeek.com website (referred to as ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’ in this policy).

This policy, together with our Cookie policy, covers what data we collect and why, as well as the rights you have.

By continuing to use our site or providing your personal data to us, you acknowledge and agree that we can collect, keep and use your personal data in the ways set out in this policy.

If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use this website.

The non-personally-identifying data we collect as you use our website

Technical data

Each time that you visit our website, our system automatically collects data from your device. None of this information can be directly associated with a specific person.

We automatically collect technical and device-related information of the sort that web browsers, depending on their settings, make available:

  • IP address
  • device type (e.g. desktop computer, laptop or mobile phone) and model
  • operating system (OS)
  • browser type and version
  • page requested
  • date and time of the page request
  • referring URL (the page you were on immediately before navigating to our page)

These data are stored in the server log files. Our purpose in collecting them is to deliver the content of our website correctly and guarantee its smooth running.

The data are stored separately from all personal data. We do not combine this personal data with other data sources. We do not transfer your personal data to third parties. We would only provide strictly necessary information to law enforcement authorities in case of a cyber-attack.

These data are regularly deleted after about 30 days.

Anonymised statistics

We also use a software package that provides us with anonymous usage information based on the technical data mentioned previously, such as:

  • Pages visited (so that we can identify popular content)
  • Referring page URL (so that we know how our visitors find us e.g. via a web search or social media)
  • Browser, device and OS (so that we can see what devices to optimise our content for)
  • Geolocation (an estimation of a visitor’s country/region/city based on IP address. The IP address itself is hashed/anonymised and cannot be used to identify individual people)
  • The date and time of each page view

This software does not use cookies or gather any personal data about you.

We collect this information so that we can better understand how our visitors use our website and use this knowledge to improve our content.

(No) Cookies

We use session storage to load the necessary information about the structure of our website onto your device so that you can navigate properly.

We do not collect or use any personal information via cookies. You can read our cookie policy here.

The personal data we collect about you if you use our services

We only collect personal information if you use our contact form, namely:

  • Your name
  • Your e-mail address
  • Your URL (optional)
  • Any personal information you may put in the Comment field
  • The date and time of your contact request. This information is transmitted by your browser and processed in our IT systems.

We do this so that we can respond to your enquiries. We will not share this data with anyone.

We save this data in session storage. This means that unsubmitted contact form data is stored in your browser’s memory while the page is open so that you don’t have to fill it in again if you go to another page before submitting it. Please be aware that if you close the tab before submitting the contact request, any text will be lost.

Storing your personal data

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need to, depending on what we are using it for. Currently we only store personal data if you choose to use our contact form. We will keep your data for as long as it takes for us to fully answer your query.

Security of your personal data

Your information is stored by our hosting provider who provides comprehensive website security, including:

  • free SSL certificates to encrypt data transmission
  • daily malware scanning
  • server protection including advanced DDoS protection and server-level firewalls to shield against network attacks
  • 24/7 expert support monitoring of server infrastructure and activity

These measures are there to protect against threats like hacking, DDoS attacks and phishing.

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We cannot guarantee the security of any personal information sent to or from our site while it is still in transit, so you provide it at your own risk. You should only access our services within a secure environment.

External links

We frequently link to third party websites (e.g. journals and health information sites). Such links are provided for your information. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s website.

Please note that when you interact with third party websites, those parties may independently collect information about you and may also solicit information from you.

We are not responsible or liable for what they may do with your data. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of other websites you visit.

Your rights

Under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have 8 fundamental rights over your personal data, namely the:

  • Right to be Informed: you have the right to be told how your personal information is being collected, used, shared and stored (hence this policy page)
  • Right of Access: you have the right to ask us to confirm whether we are processing your personal data and to get a copy of all the personal information that we have collected about you (within a month of your request)
  • Right to Rectification: you can ask us to correct personal data that is outdated, incorrect or incomplete
  • Right to Erasure: you have ‘the right to be forgotten’, i.e. to ask us to delete your personal data permanently, notably if the information is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected or if you withdraw your consent
  • Right to Restrict Processing: you can ask us to temporarily freeze or limit how we use your data, for example, while you contest its accuracy or while your request for erasure is being reviewed
  • Right to Data Portability: you own your data. You can ask us to transfer your personal data directly to another company or to give it to you in a commonly used and structured format that will allow you to read it and transfer it to someone else
  • Right to Object: you have an absolute right to object to your data being used for direct marketing at any time. This also applies to any profiling, insofar as it is related to direct advertising. You can also object to processing based on ‘legitimate interests,’ although we may continue to do so if we can prove compelling reasons that override your rights
  • Right to Human Intervention in Automated Decision-Making: you have the right not to be subject to solely automated decisions (should we be using algorithms or AI to make significant decisions about you, which we are not now nor do we plan to)

For further information on your rights, please read the clear guidance available on the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP) site or visit the GDPR website.

If you wish to exercise any of these rights please contact us at [email protected]. We will do out best to fulfil your request as quickly as possible, at most within one calendar month from receipt of your request.

Changes to this policy

We may make changes to this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any significant changes in the way we treat your personal information will be recorded here. We encourage you to regularly check this page for any changes. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
