Secondary allergy

Secondary allergy aka cross-reactivity, an allergic reaction to a substance (often food) that has similar proteins to the substance you are actually allergic to (the primary allergy), often an airborne allergen like pollen or house dust mites. It happens because your immune system confuses the protein in the food (e.g. apple) with the protein in the substance that you are actually allergic to (e.g. birch pollen).
