A type of protein that is present in multiple plants and/or animals and causes allergic cross-reactions between aeroallergens, plant and/or animal foods because it has a similar structure and amino acid sequence across species, causing IgE antibodies to mistake the protein in one species (e.g. birch) for the equivalent protein in another (e.g. apple).
